One of the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, is known for instantly protecting his devotees particularly when they are in danger and sorrow. Unlike other avatars where each one is born, grow up and kill the asura, he appeared instantly and killed Hiranya Kaship to protect, save and bless Prahaladha. It is the significance of devotion of Lord Narasimha. Also, known for the extent of Gnana and ultimate divinity in countering the vicious and tricky boon got obtained by Hiranya.
Hiranya got a boon where by it was almost impossible to kill him. The legend goes like this - Hiranya was very clever in obtaining a boon that he can be killed only
by a living being who is neither human nor animal
by a weapon which is neither a living thing nor a non living thing
at a point of time which is neither a day nor a night
at a place which is neither inside (aham), nor outside (puram)
at a state which is neither on ground nor in the sky
Lord was kind enough to answer Prahaladha’s prayer and instantly appeared before and killed Hiranya by countering all the factors of the boon assuming half human - half animal with a Lion’s head, using his nails as a weapon, at a time exactly in between day and night (Andhi), at exactly the entrance door of the Hiranya’s palace and by keeping him on his laps (neither on the ground nor in the sky).
It is the vindication of ultimate power of Paramathma. Lord Narasimha is extremely ferocious (ugra murthy) and at the same time extremely kind towards his true devotees - it is very clearly seen from Hiranya and Prahalada’s stories
